Abernethy Highland Games and Clan Grant Gathering
“The Friendly Games”
Held annually on the second Saturday of August, on the Games Field in the centre of Nethy Bridge. The Abernethy Highland Games (“The Friendly Games”), are one of the oldest traditional highland games in the country, famous for Massed Pipe Bands (around 150 band members are represented).
The annual Clan Grant Gathering is also an integral part of the tradition.
Games day starts at 10.00 am with Children’s Races and Highland Dancing competitions. For full details see the timetable.
The Chieftain’s Parade is at 1.00 pm when the Massed Pipe Bands and Clan Grant members march onto the field. The Chieftain is then introduced and the Games declared open. The afternoon has all the traditional competitions: Highland Dancing; Pipe Band; Solo Piping and Drumming; Athletics; RSPB Road Race; Tug O’ War; and Heavy events.
